Please Be Happy
Privacy policy
Last updated 19 September 2026
Please Be Happy is operated by Mareile Menninger FZ-LLC, a company registered in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (“we”, “us”). This policy explains what personal data we collect through please-be-happy.com, why, who we share it with, and what your rights are.
What we collect and why
- Email address — when you subscribe to Before Six or requestThe First Six Years. We use it to send you what you asked for and, if you joined the newsletter, occasional letters. Every email has an unsubscribe link.
- Purchase details — when you buy Letters from the First Six Years, payment is handled by our checkout provider, Polar. We receive your email address and order details so we can deliver the Letters and keep accounting records. We never see or store your card number.
- Technical data — our hosting provider logs standard request data (IP address, browser type, pages requested) to keep the site running and secure.
- Usage and advertising data — only if you accept cookies (see below): which pages you visit, how you arrived, and whether you saw one of our adverts elsewhere. We use this to understand what is useful and to reach other parents who might want the Letters.
Cookies and similar technologies
The site works fully without any optional cookies. Our providers may set strictly necessary cookies for security and to remember that a form was submitted; these need no consent.
We may also use Google Analytics (to measure site usage) and theMeta Pixel (to measure and improve advertising on Facebook and Instagram). These set cookies and share pseudonymous identifiers with Google and Meta, who may combine them with other data they hold. They are switched off until you accept them in the banner shown on your first visit. You can change your mind at any time by clearing this site’s cookies in your browser, after which the banner will ask again. Where these tools are active, IP addresses are anonymised where the provider allows it.
Who we share it with
We use a small number of service providers to run the site. They process data on our behalf:
- MailerLite (Lithuania, EU) — email newsletter and delivery of the free read.
- Polar (payment processing, with Stripe) — checkout and delivery of the Letters.
- Vercel (USA) — website hosting.
- Google and Meta (USA) — analytics and advertising, only with your consent.
Some of these providers are outside the EU/UK and the UAE. Where they process data of EU or UK residents, they do so under standard contractual clauses or an equivalent adequacy mechanism. We do not sell your data.
How long we keep it
We keep your email address for as long as you are subscribed, and order records for as long as required by accounting law. If you unsubscribe, your address is removed from our mailing list. Analytics data is retained for the period set in the tool (typically 14 months).
Your rights
You can ask us to access, correct or delete the personal data we hold about you, to restrict or object to processing, or to receive a copy in a portable form. Emailhello@please-be-happy.com and we will respond within 30 days. If you are in the EU or UK, you also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority. Residents of the UAE have rights under the UAE Personal Data Protection Law.
Children
This site is for parents. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 16.
Changes
If we change this policy, we will update the date at the top of this page. Significant changes will be announced by email to subscribers.
